Community Projects
Our Youth are a vital part of our community projects. They have helped us reach hundreds of our citizens just in 2019 and even more since 2015. We have participated in the Vial of Life Program, Home Fire Preparedness Program, discussed stroke recogntion, and even handed out bottled water because it is so important to our health.
Monthly classes
Every month we train on disaster preparedness and public health. We have covered Incident Command, National Incident Management Systems, stroke care and recognition, and setup of our mobile shelter. We plan on having more classes and excerises every month.
Disaster Preparedness
The Weslaco Fire Department created the Emergency Medical Regional Response Team (EMRRT) for disasters. The Rio Grande Valley Medical Reserve Corps plays a vital part of that team. Our youth are training to be an important part of that team.
Our Program Sponsor
Our volunteer programs would not be here today if not for the support from the Commissioners, Mayor, and Manager of the City of Weslaco. They have allowed the Weslaco Fire Department to be proactive in the City and across the Rio Grande Valley. The Weslaco Fire Chief first introduce the Medical Reserve Corps, CERT, and the Emergency Medical Regional Response Team back in 2007.
